READY TO PLAY?

Here’s how it works:

You register as a collector, naming your club. After you have watched the necessary training video, we will send you official cell phone collection boxes, fitting 30 cell phones each. You can order 1 box at the start of the campaign. If you need more in the course of the collection, no problem: simply re-order!

As soon as the boxes are full, you send them back to our cell phone collection centre by DHL at our expense. You will then receive a lottery ticket for each full box.

It’s ok if several people from your team and your club also register for the campaign and collect at the same time or together. The quickest way to reach your goal is completely up to you.

Two hat-tricks are better than one

One hat-trick is not enough for you? Then double your chances of winning European Championship tickets and other great prizes. Simply register for the “DFB-Punktespiel” (DFB points game) and for every collection box you return, two tickets will be entered into the lottery instead of just one. So be sure to register there too. You are already registered? All the better! By the way, participation in the cell phone collection campaign also earns you additional points in the DFB points game.

Note: Registration for the DFB points game is already possible. The cell phone collection campaign will not be integrated into the DFB points game until the beginning of March.

UNITED WE STAND – IN THE STADIUM AND IN SOCIETY

Red card for online hate

Deutsche Telekom and social commitment have always been a strong team. Deutsche Telekom and social commitment have always been a strong team. The campaign “No Hate Speech” is particularly close to our hearts.

That’s why we’re simply substitute ourselves into the cell phone collection campaign and donate 50 cents for every cell phone collected during the campaign: to the independent and non-partisan non-profit organisation “HateAid”, which campaigns for human rights in the digital space and the strengthening of democracy on the Internet. One thing is clear to us: society or football – we can only win as a team.

Know your rule book: collecting cell phones is important

Of course, the commitment of Deutsche Telekom goes even further and is spread across many different areas of social relevance. When it comes to environmental and climate protection, one of the issues close to our heart is the conservation of resources. And this is exactly where our cell phone collection campaign comes into play.

But why is collecting old cell phones a good idea in the first place? Old cell phones that gather dust in drawers everywhere contain valuable raw materials that are often recyclable or – even better – can be refurbished. Then they can play in the second division for another season. This way, we protect the environment by returning valuable resources to the cycle instead of bringing them to landfill. Quite simple, isn’t it?

You can find everything you need to know about the important topic of cell phone collection here or on the website of our cell phone collection centre. We would be happy if you joined our collection team to help us reach our goals as a unit.

EVERYTHING FOR THE STANDS

So you want to be the MVP of our collection campaign? Then find your own 12th man to support you. We have posters and social media templates for you to download, which you can use freely. This is how you draw attention to yourself and your collection campaign. Show everyone that as a footballer you can do more than just collect points in the table.

And with your support and the constant chanting from your fans in the stands, we’ll bring the sustainability trophy home.

OFFSIDE TRAP FOR IGNORANCE – OUR FAQS

We’re sure you still have unanswered questions. Don’t worry, others have them, too. That’s why we’ve already answered the most frequently asked questions:

Questions about the cell phone collection campaign in general

There are currently over 200 million used appliances lying unused in Germany’s drawers. These could be reused or recycled – thus making an important contribution to the circular economy and protecting the environment. Safe and sustainable processes have been developed for the collection, processing and professional recycling of cell phones and smartphones.

Anyone who is a member of a DFB association club, orders a collection box for the EURO24 cell phone collection campaign and returns it filled can take part in the campaign and the competition. However, collectors must be at least 18 years old at the time of the competition and have their permanent residence in Germany. The terms and conditions of the competition apply.

Telekom does not benefit financially from the mobile phone collection, as it provides the mobile phone collection centre, collection boxes and information material free of charge and pays the shipping costs. Deutsche Telekom is committed to collecting mobile phones because it not only sells mobile devices in line with the principles of the circular economy and sustainability, but also collects them so that they can be reused or recycled to a high standard.

In addition, for every device collected during the EM24 cell phone collection campaign, Deutsche Telekom will donate 50 cents to the non-profit partner organization HateAid, which campaigns for human rights in the digital space and for strengthening democracy online.

Approximately 85% of the mobile phones collected are defective or devices that would be too expensive to refurbish for further use. They are recycled by the mobile phone collection centre in Europe using modern processes in a professional and environmentally friendly manner. This means that up to 60 per cent of the materials used in a mobile phone can be used again – as recycled metals or to generate energy.

Approximately 15 % of the collected appliances are fully functional and suitable for further use. All data of the previous user within Germany is carefully deleted from these mobile phones and smartphones. The appliances are then mainly sold and used in Europe, Africa and Asia.

You can also find a graphic of the joint Telekom and Foxway take-back process here: https://www.handysammelcenter.de/

If the devices continue to be used, the data is deleted in accordance with the latest technology and in compliance with the GDPR. When the appliances are recycled, they are shredded in accordance with the relevant DIN standard and completely destroyed during the melting process. See https://www.handysammelcenter.de/sicherheit/

Smartphones that can still be used are refurbished by our partners to the highest standards. We always have special offers in our shops and online and give a guarantee on these appliances.

Sustainable management has long been an important concern for Deutsche Telekom. We are the leading telecommunications company in Europe. We also want to be a leader when it comes to sustainability. We have set out on our journey in large and small steps. Among other things, we are pursuing ambitious climate targets. Our customers are already surfing on the green Telekom network. Deutsche Telekom has also been regularly recognised for its commitment to sustainability. You can find out more, for example, in Telekom’s annual Corporate Responsibility Report.

Telekom and the DFB have a long-standing partnership that has already been extended several times in 15 years. Telekom is thus also a partner of the DFB for the FIFA World Cup 2022 and the UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany and will once again be able to offer extensive insights into the national team’s training camps and base camp, among other things. It is the only provider to broadcast all matches of both tournaments exclusively via MagentaTV.

In addition to campaigns such as the mobile phone collection campaign, matches from UEFA EURO 2024 and the FIFA World Cup 2022 will also be shown live and in some cases exclusively on MagentaTV. All 64 matches of the World Cup will be shown, 16 of them exclusively on Telekom TV. These included two round of 16 matches and one quarter-final match. All matches will be broadcast in Ultra HD.

Deutsche Telekom is the official national partner of UEFA EURO 2024, which will take place in Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024. In a first-of-its-kind three-pronged approach, it will provide telecommunication services for the tournament, as well as acting as a national sponsor and media rights and broadcasting partner.

As the official partner for telecommunications services, Deutsche Telekom will ensure the networking of the ten host cities, the 24 team and training centres and all official fan zones in the host cities. All of these locations will be connected to UEFA’s International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Leipzig, from where the TV images of the matches will be transmitted around the world. In addition, Deutsche Telekom will set up and operate comprehensive IT networks (LAN and WLAN) in the stadiums to ensure smooth TV broadcasting and communication for media representatives as well as the integration of the EURO 2024 headquarters and its data centres into the overall network.

At any time at www.handysammelcenter.de, all information about this campaign and the competition can be found at www.green-magenta.com/Handysammelaktion

Questions about the registration

Registration is necessary for legal reasons. In order to be able to collect mobile phones in a legally secure manner, please agree to the Terms of Use & Participation, the Privacy Policy and the training via the training video.

The complete conditions of participation are available on the campaign page.

Every member of a football club in the DFB association can register individually, specifying their own club and optionally the team they wish to collect for. The member takes part in the campaign as a private individual. It is therefore possible and permissible for several members of the same organisation to register individually for the campaign. The registered person initially receives a collection box (additional repeat orders are possible) and this is sent to them via DHL. The registered person is responsible for these and the collected devices during the collection and for their return

Only natural persons who are 18 years old at the time of registration are eligible to participate in the mobile phone collection campaign.

Unfortunately no, only natural persons who are permanently resident in Germany are eligible to take part in the EM2024 mobile phone collection campaign.

To register as a collector, you must be at least 18 years old. So persuade an adult to support your campaign and take on the role and responsibility of collector for you. And then, of course, you can help convince many people in your community to hand in their old mobile phones.

Yes, as long as they fulfil the conditions of participation, in particular are a member of a football club in the DFB association, and are not directly involved in the design and implementation of the competition.

The EM2024 mobile phone collection campaign is a joint initiative of the DFB and Deutsche Telekom. Participation is therefore limited to members of clubs belonging to the German Football Association.

If you still want to collect mobile phones and do something good for the environment, we would of course be delighted if you register your own collection campaign at www.handysammelcenter.de and become a collector.

The mobile phone collection centre has several cooperation partners who collect via their own partner campaigns – these cooperation partners can be selected in a drop-down menu during registration or are already preset in the partner links. If you would like to collect for the DFB campaign, please make sure that you register for the EM24 mobile phone collection campaign when you register. Only then will you receive the corresponding collection box and the collected mobile phones will be credited to the EM24 mobile phone collection campaign.

The details required for re-registration at the mobile phone collection centre (e-mail address and password) are important for various purposes during the campaign, for example to reorder collection boxes or to print out the shipping documents that enable the boxes to be sent correctly and free of charge. So make sure you remember the password! It is also important to be able to print out the certificate for the collected mobile phones after the campaign.

Collecting mobile phones is easy. However, some legal regulations must be observed so that the used mobile phones can be transported safely by DHL and only the devices that can be taken back in this way are sent in. We explain the individual steps and how you can recognise the right devices in a short training video.

Yes, training is mandatory for every collector before collecting mobile phones. Before ordering a collection box, the training on dangerous goods legislation must therefore be successfully completed and the rules described there must be observed during collection and for dispatch.

The collection campaign is a co-operation between the DFB and Deutsche Telekom. If the collector not only registers for the mobile phone collection campaign but also takes part in the DFB points game, the number of raffle tickets that the collector receives for each collection box sent in on time will be doubled.

In addition, the collector has the opportunity to indicate participation in the collection campaign in the DFB points game and thus also receive points in the points game.

For technical reasons, the mobile phone collection campaign will be integrated into the points game with a slight delay. So please check back regularly if you cannot find this campaign on the DFB Punktespiel website (under the heading Environmental and climate protection).

Details on the DFB points game can be found here.

A number of our communication measures started somewhat later than planned. That’s why we want to be fair enough to allow all those who have only seen the later information to take part. Registration is now possible up to and including April 10, 2024. Please note that on 10.4. all registration steps must be completed.

Questions on the collection phase

For your own mobile phone collection campaign, we provide advertising material for download, which you are welcome to print out and distribute, hang up or send out in agreement with your association.

(Telekom/DFB posts on social media can of course also be forwarded in your club) Incidentally, there are no limits to your creativity: why not set up the box at club matches, organise a small event or ask your neighbours or relatives: you will see that many people still have unused mobile phones in their drawers at home. Please always follow the instructions for collecting the mobile phones, which you can watch again at any time in the training video.

When you register, you will initially receive a collection box (for approx. 30 mobile phones). If you discover during the collection that you need more than this box, you are welcome to place another order via the mobile phone collection centre portal (login with password required). You can return as many collection boxes as you like.

Both “devices without batteries” and “devices (mobile phones and smartphones) with batteries” may be collected in the mobile phone collection box if the latter have successfully passed the online mobile phone check and the external visual inspection.

The collection box may only be opened by the responsible collector before dispatch in order to check the mobile phones. If a mobile phone is thrown in by mistake, the responsible collector can return the device. However, he must make sure that the person really was the original owner.

You will find all the necessary information on the campaign page (www.green-magenta.com/Handysammelaktion). We will also provide you with material that you can use to publicise the collection campaign in your club. For reasons of sustainability, we do not send additional printed material.

For data protection reasons, it must be ensured that no devices are stolen from the box or that the entire box disappears. This would mean a reportable data protection incident.

There is a code on the DHL address label that is used to assign the parcel to the sender. On arrival at our logistics centre, the first step is to scan all boxes. By entering a completely filled box, you will receive a ticket for the competition. You will be informed accordingly by e-mail.

In a second step, all mobile phones are registered in a database using their IMEI number, assigned to the package sent in and thus to the person who ordered and sent the box.

In the case of collection campaigns with a collection box, the IMEI is not shown for data protection reasons, only the number of mobile phones in a collection box. Once the devices have been counted, every registered collector can see the number of “their” devices in the mobile phone collection centre.

The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a 15-digit serial number. Each mobile phone has its own IMEI and can therefore be uniquely identified.

Please do not accept loose batteries, but dispose of them exclusively via the stationary trade or the recycling centres of the municipalities.

Yes, the collector and sender are responsible for the collection box until they hand it over to DHL. They must therefore ensure compliance with the criteria for devices that are shipped, as well as the packaging instructions – in accordance with the training video on safe collection and shipping.

Devices that are excluded from dispatch according to the criteria in the training video may NOT be posted and dispatched.

Furthermore, no tablets or accessories, such as chargers or headphones, and no loose rechargeable batteries or batteries may be thrown into the box.

It is also not permitted to throw in other electrical appliances or other contaminants. An incorrectly filled box cannot be counted for the competition.

Questions about preparing the box for dispatch

  1. Please ensure that the box is not filled to the maximum for safe despatch. If you have a large number of devices, you are welcome to order another box from the mobile phone collection centre free of charge.
  2. Check all devices according to the criteria explained in the training video.
  3. Fill the collection box with filling material to protect the appliances against accidental damage.
  4. Fold the top plate of the full collection box onto the insertion area and stick the collection box securely with adhesive tape
  1. Log in to the mobile phone collection centre.
  2. Select “Return collection boxes” and enter the number of collection boxes to be sent.
  3. Print out the DHL shipping label. You will also receive it by e-mail. Stick this clearly visible on the top of the collection box.

Please only use the collection boxes and do not use your own cardboard boxes or other packaging.

The filling material prevents the devices in the parcel from being accidentally damaged. Please pay attention to sustainability when selecting the filling material. Avoid plastics or metals and use paper-based products instead.

Lithium-ion batteries are used in all mobile phones and smartphones today. Lithium batteries are categorised as Class 9 dangerous goods in the ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road). To collect the used mobile phones safely and send them via DHL, it is essential to follow the instructions in the training video.

The hazardous goods labelling on the back of the box must not be taped over before shipping.

Batteries lying loose in the pack can cause a short circuit and possibly lead to ignition.

Generally speaking, safety comes first.

If the device has physical damage, such as a broken housing or liquid damage, or if it is obvious that the housing has been opened without authorisation, a non-original battery has been installed (ask the owner/donor) or liquid is leaking, you must not accept the device. If you have any safety concerns about the condition of the appliance, you do not have to accept it and can refer the customer to the local recycling centre.

Devices that have no external damage (see above) can also be returned to your Telekom Shop.

It is also not permitted to throw in other electrical appliances or other contaminants. An incorrectly filled box cannot be counted for the competition.

Appliances that do not meet the criteria in the training video should be disposed of at the nearest recycling centre.

You can also return devices that do not show any external damage to your Telekom Shop.

Questions about handing in the collection boxes

The delivery is made via DHL. You do not pay any shipping costs.

If you want to return the collection box, print out the DHL address label and affix it to the box so that it is clearly visible. A code on this DHL address label can be used to assign the collection box to the EM24 mobile phone campaign and the collector who sent it in.

Take the collection box to the nearest DHL shop and hand it in there – free of charge.

Analogous to the extended registration, we are also extending the collection phase and postponing the closing date to Friday, April 26, 2024. The registration of receipt of the parcel by DHL applies here. We will continue to accept collection boxes that are sent after this date in the interests of environmental protection and we will also donate 50 cents to Hate-Aid for each of these cell phones. But unfortunately, it is no longer possible to take part in the competition if you send in your entry late.

Our tip: It’s best to send your boxes as soon as they are full and don’t wait until the last day. And remember to generate and print out the shipping label for free shipping on the Handysammelcenter website in good time (login required!).

No, a donation receipt cannot be issued by Deutsche Telekom.

Yes, when using the DHL address label, which can be printed out from the mobile phone collection centre, shipping is free of charge for the collector.

Of course, the collected mobile phones are processed just as professionally and you also receive a confirmation of your collected mobile phones.

Unfortunately, participation in the competition is then not possible.

Transport for the Telekom mobile phone collection is handled by DHL.

If the collector or the person sending the parcel has properly filled and sealed the collection box in accordance with the description on the box and the instructions in the training video, liability for the parcel is transferred to Foxway GmbH when the collection box(es) is/are handed over to the transport service provider (DHL), which will take over the secure recycling of the devices on behalf of Deutsche Telekom.

This is not the case if the specifications of the video were not adhered to and the collection box was not properly closed. In this case, the responsibility for dispatch/transport lies with the collector or the person sending the goods.

Questions about the phase after the boxes have been delivered

As a registered collector, you can see in the mobile phone collection centre that your collection box has been processed and how many mobile phones were included. If there are a large number of returns, processing may take some time.

You will also be informed about your participation in the competition as soon as your mobile phone collection box has been received by our logistics partner.

You can print out a collection certificate from the mobile phone collection centre showing the amount of valuable metallic raw materials that have been recovered thanks to your collection campaign.

The draw for the winners will take place after 17.05.2024. If you win, you will be informed by e-mail within 7 days in accordance with the conditions of participation. The comprehensive conditions of participation can be found here.

The registered collector is legally the participant in the competition. In the event of a win, the collector can accordingly decide on its use within the limits of the conditions of participation.

Questions about Deutsche Telekom's donation pledge

For every device collected during the EM24 mobile phone collection campaign, Deutsche Telekom will donate 50 cents to the non-profit partner organisation HateAid, which campaigns for human rights in the digital space and for the strengthening of democracy online.

HateAid strengthens human rights in the digital space. Anyone affected by digital violence receives comprehensive counselling and legal support from HateAid. The non-profit organisation educates politicians, the judiciary and businesses about hate online and creates concrete solutions for our democracy. Their goal: a network in which freedom of expression is safeguarded and participation is made possible.
